If this is a fake, then he did a darn good job, seeing that this was back in 1996.  The StarWars movies were not this good. If  Dr Jonathan wanted to fool someone, then he got me.  I am convinced!  However, this ties in to my research.  I believe that this being is one of the Nachash.  The Lord Jesus stated that he has given us power over serpents scorpions, and all power of the enemy.  This is one of the devils powers  (Ephesians 6:12 principalities and powers).
